In order to underscore the play’s ecological message, the production team and I committed to producing the play as sustainably as possible. We constructed the set using stock platforming and existing materials, incorporating elements from other productions to create a “natural” world from human detritus. For the costumes, we used existing stock and thrift store items, with the team deconstructing and reconstructing clothing items. For the lighting design, we used all LED sources and invested a significant portion of our overall production budget in additional LED inventory to make a long-term investment in sustainable theatrical practices. We create a digital “program” for the production and provided audience members with a half sheet paper program printed on 100% recycled paper.
